Kenan Thompson is about to be a dad.
The 35 year old cast member of Saturday Night Live made the announcement during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and he’s a bundle of nerves, he said.
“I am terrified,” admitted Thompson. “I don’t know what to do with babies. Like, what do you feed it and like put it away or something?”
Thompson married his wife Christina Evangeline in 2011, and this is the couple’s first child. And although the late night funny man is obviously thrilled to be a father, he said he isn’t looking forward to the actual delivery, because female doctor visits freak him out.
The Atlanta, Ga. native also compared the differences between men going to the doctor’s office and women going, and said it’s always been difficult for him to watch a physician treat his wife.
“I plan to be, like, at the casino when she’s giving birth,” he joked. “Kind of old school, a little bit. That’s what’s freaking me out the most. Because a guy’s doctor visit is kinda, you know, straightforward–just a little cough, a little touch here, a little ear, nose, and throat. But women, that’s an intricate type situation.”
Thompson also applauded women for all the things they have to go through in order to stay healthy. “You go through a lot,” he said, and he got a big response from the female portion of the audience. “I applaud you. It’s weird to see somebody treat your lady like that.”
Believe it or not, it’s been 11 years since Thompson first appeared on Saturday Night Live, and since then, he’s been responsible for putting on some of the funnies skits to date. And getting the SNL gig was always his dream, he said in past interviews, even when he was still a child actor on Nickelodeon.
