As you might imagine, Regis Philbin doesn't care about prom fashions, or back-to-school topics, or anything involving the youth of today. He's a grown man, after all, and the latest trend in prom dresses doesn't--and probably shouldn't--appeal to him.
The problem is, it was his job to talk about those things, and he hated it.
When lovably-gruff Philbin was still hosting "Live! With Regis and Kelly", Kelly Ripa told David Letterman, he didn't like having to cover some of the weekly topics, which included pets and babies. She said he didn't mind honoring teachers, but he didn't understand the point of some of the others.
"He hated Beautiful Baby Week," she confided with a laugh. "He felt all the kids looked the same. Top teacher week, he really loved it...it was the one thing he never really bitched about."
Of course, Kelly said all of this in a joking manner and did a pretty good impression of Philbin, which got a belly laugh from David Letterman. Philbin took his leave from the show recently, leaving Ripa and the producers on their own to find a suitable replacement. But they insist they will take their time to find just the right match for Kelly, since the show depends so much on the hosts' chemistry.
