  • Jon Voight, who has had a rocky past with daughter Angelina Jolie, said he was happy to see his granddaughter onscreen in the hit film Maleficent because it reminded him of the first time he saw his own daughter enter the world of acting.

While Voight didn’t compare Vivienne–who plays a young Aurora in the film–to her mother, he did say it brought back great memories. Jolie was just seven when she debuted in Lookin’ To Get Out with her dad.

“She’s wonderful. It was a very lovely moment to see Angie with her on screen, and they were terrific together. It was just great….It’s the most wonderful thing when you see your little granddaughter, just like when I saw Angie on the screen, you know,” Voight said.

Voight made headlines earlier this year when paparazzi captured him on camera handing over a giant Valentine’s Day card to Jolie’s bodyguard, prompting speculation that the two of them might not be on speaking terms again. However, Jolie was away at the time, so Voight may have just been delivering it into good hands.

Father and daughter had a strained relationship for several years after Jolie learned that he’d had an affair while he was with her mother, and after he reportedly told Access Hollywood that Jolie had serious mental problems and needed help. The two reconciled, however, and Voight said in 2011 that he realized what was really important.

‘‘I suddenly saw things differently and everything shifted. That one moment changed my whole life. It gave me back my daughter and my family. Being reunited with my Angie is very precious to me. I adore my grandchildren, they are my great love. It makes me so emotional and grateful,” he said.
