As previously reported, John McAfee, the creator of the antivirus of the same name, is wanted by police in Belize as the prime suspect in the murder of his neighbor. McAfee has been calling Wired reporter Joshua Davis, sharing his side of the story. He says he’s innocent, by the way.
Apparently he keeps calling Davis, and Davis has been tweeting about the conversations as they occur. Here is a series of tweets form Davis. The first was from about 19 hours ago. The most recent is from 13 minutes ago.
John McAfee was accused of murder today. He has been calling me throughout the day to explain what happened. http://t.co/gA5rpKSK
McAfee 1min ago: “Police have arrested the caretaker of my home+my biz partner+taxi driver who gave me ride. These are Stalin-era tactics.”
McAfee called just now: “I am adept at hiding. I will do whatever it takes to stay alive.”
Talking about McAfee running from the police on Good Morning America tmrw at 7:15am @GMA. Includes audio of his phone calls to me today.
Early morning phone call from McAfee in hiding: “I will not turn myself in.”
McAfee at 5am: “The police have set up roadblocks across the country to catch me. I slept last night on a mattress infested with lice.”
McAfee 7:05AM PST: “Power was just cut to the house I’m in. I think this is it.”
Going on CNN in 15 minutes to describe McAfee’s phone calls to me over the course of this morning.
McAfee says he is not armed. If the police shoot him, it’s not because he has a weapon.
McAfee just called: He has changed locations. The police have not caught him yet.
McAfee says the police raided the house next door to where he was and he evaded them.
This is crazy.
I’ll embed Davis’ timeline below, so you can see updates in real time:
