At VGX 2013, it was revealed that Square Enix would be bringing 2013’s Tomb Raider to PS4 and Xbox One in a definitive edition that exponentially improves the visuals. At the time, all we knew was that this version of the game would run at 60FPS in 1080p and feature upgraded textures and TressFX.
While we all now know about Tomb Raider’s next gen debut, some may want to know how the team did it. That’s where the latest video from Square Enix comes in as it explores the new technologies used to upgrade Tomb Raider from its PS3/Xbox 360 debut to the PS4 and Xbox One.
The cynics out there are saying this is just an excuse for Square Enix to sell more copies of Tomb Raider. While that’s certainly true, it looks like the development team did have another goal in mind with the next gen version. They say that gamers can look at Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition as their first stab at making a next-gen version of Lara Croft. It goes without saying that next Tomb Raider title built specifically for next-gen consoles will look even better.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will be available on January 28 for the PS4 and Xbox One.
