Google continues to report increases in low quality scraper type sites and even more ominous – a 180% increase in websites being hacked. This prompted Google to add to its algorithms code that lessened hacked spam in search results. Google also sent over 4.3 million messages to webmasters notifying them of manual actions that they took against their site and what they were related to. Google reported a 33% increase in sites that went through the remediation process and requested reconsideration.

There were over 400,000 spam reports filed by consumers of which 65% of them were acted on by Google with over 80% of those found to be actual spam. Google also recommends that webmasters participate in their Webmaster Central Help Forum which had tens of thousands of questions answered by Google staff as well as the over 35,000 forum members that have been given Webmaster Top Contributor status.
