Google Messages is rolling out a major new feature to beta users, giving them the ability to “Delete for everyone.”
Other messaging platforms, like Signal and WhatsApp, give users the ability to delete their messages, not only for themselves but for everyone in the chat. The feature is useful for those times a user accidentally sends a message to the wrong group, or sends a message they wish they hadn’t.
Google Messages has noticeably lacked the feature, but it was discovered by 9to5Google in February that the company was working to add the feature.
According to a user on Reddit, a recent beta of Google Messages appears to have the feature, although it’s not fully baked-in yet.
I have only found one group where it works.. it’s a big group of 12 people.. but none of my other RCS groups allow me to do it.. and I have yet to find a 1:1 convo that allows me yet .. but I’m on public beta with delete.
Delete for everyone is one of the few features Google Messages is still lacking, compared to its messaging rivals, and its addition will go a long way toward making the app a full-fledged messaging option for many users.
