Google now lets you wear virtual masks in Google+ Hangouts. Finally, the killer feature. This could be the one that ushers in the downfall of Facebook.
I’m kidding of course, but the feature does exist.
Google product manager Amit Fulay posted on Google+:
Hanging out with friends and family using Google+ Hangouts is always fun.
In the past, we’ve introduced effects like mustache, reindeer and antlers. Today, we’re experimenting with a few more. Just click on the new mask image icon to cycle through these new effects. (see screenshot)
We hope you have as much fun as our designer +Beck Park and engineer +Jeremy Ng had in creating these.

Note: the effects are being rolled out, so if you dont see it at first, give it a try in a few minutes.
Google+ also offers mask effects in its creative kit for photos. So, for example, you can put a Jason Voorhees mask on your dog:

I hope Google is working on a Chrome plug-in for creative kit, which utilizes Picnik, which itself is being shut down by the company. I think that would make more people happy than silly masks in hangouts.
