As the GoDaddy elephant killing controversy receives less attention, CEO Bob Parsons has returned to tweeting. We reported yesterday that he had broken his Twitter silence, albeit without further reference to the ordeal.
He has now followed up his returning tweet with the annuoncement that GoDaddy is donating $500,000 to the charity Hope for Haiti. This would be the company’s second such donation since the quake.
Many pledges 2 Haiti don’t turn into checks. Conditions desperate. GoDaddy.com donates another $500,000 to Hope 4 Haiti.
GoDaddy made a donation to the charity for the same amount back in January 2010. The press release for the announcement back then said “GoDaddy’s philanthropic CEO and Founder Bob Parsons initiated the move immediately after learning about the high magnitude earthquake in Haiti.”
“The moment we saw the news, we knew we had to help,” Parsons said. “This devastating earthquake killed thousands and thousands of people and conditions for survivors are deplorable. Those of us not affected by this disaster need to step up – we at Go Daddy feel it’s our duty to lead the way.”
It will be interesting to see if the new donation will spark a trend in the recovery of public perception of the company. Regardless, it’s certainly a good thing for the cause.
In the past, GoDaddy has also made charitable contrubtions to other causes including Parkinson’s disease research and even the Arizona Human Society.
