It was supposed to be just another post-Oscars show for Fashion Police. However, Giuliana Rancic sparked a backlash following her comments about Disney star Zendaya’s hair. Rancic joked about Zendaya’s dreadlocks, saying, “I feel like she smells like patchouli oil. Or weed. Yeah, maybe weed.” Zendaya deemed her comments offensive and ignorant and she took to social media to explain her disappointment. Zendaya said in her response, “There is already harsh criticism of African American hair in society, without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair.”
“My wearing my hair in locs on an Oscar red carpet was to showcase them in a positive light, to remind people of colour that our hair is good enough,” she added. Rancic has since apologized for her statement. Zendaya accepted the apology, saying, “Giuliana, I appreciate your apology and I’m glad it was a learning experience for you and for the network. I hope that others negatively affected by her words can also find it in their hearts to accept her apology as well.”

However, it seems that the whole Zendaya debacle has taken a toll on the future of Fashion Police. Kelly Osbourne, who was shocked at Rancic’s comments, took to social media to say that she’s questioning her future on the show after the incident.

It’s now been announced by E! that Osbourne has left Fashion Police days after Rancic issued her public apology to Zendaya. “Kelly Osbourne is departing E!’s Fashion Police to pursue other opportunities, and we would like to thank her for her many contributions to the series over the past five years, during which time the show became a hit with viewers,” a spokesperson for E! said in a statement.
Kelly Osbourne has been part of Fashion Police since 2010.
