A girl and her mother and grandmother were found dead in a New York City family shooting early on Saturday morning.

The shooter, who was identified as Jonathon Walker and was the father of the 7-year-old that was killed, was found dead of a self-inflicted gun shot wound hours later.

Walker shot the girl, Kayla Walker, his girlfriend, Shantai Hale, and her mother, Viola Warren, in the head and injured the couple’s 12-year-old daughter, Christina Walker, who called 911.

“I can’t believe this happened. I can’t believe this happened,” said Doreen Warren, the eldest victim’s mother.

She said that Jonathon Walker had joined the family for Christmas and that they had a really pleasant time. She added that no one in their family had indicated that anything was wrong.

The rest of the family said they are shocked that this happened. They didn’t suspect anything up to the time of the murders.

“There was no indication of anything that would remotely make him do this,” Wendell Warren, Viola Warren’s brother, said as he reportedly wiped tears from his eyes.

He added, “We’ll be baffled for years.”

Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said that there had been “nominal” reports of disturbances at the residence in 2005 and 2006 and Walker had been arrested twice in now-sealed cases. However, he is still surprised by the events.

Boyce said that Walker showed up to the home at 5:38 a.m., and his 12-year-old daughter, Christina, called 911 a few minutes afterward. She reported that her father had shot the family.

Christina underwent surgery later Saturday, but “she’s always tough. She’s determined to live,” Wendell Warren said.

Doreen Warren called Christina and her murdered sister “two beautiful girls, sweet girls.”

Such a sad fate for a girl in New York to lose her whole family.
