“Game of Thrones” has apologized for the appearance of former President George W. Bush’s head in an episode of the popular HBO series. Although the prosthetic is almost unrecognizable unless you’re really looking for it — an image of the offending cranium has been embedded below — the head was pointed out during the episode’s DVD commentary, prompting HBO, as well as the program’s executive producers, to issue an apology for the gaff.
“We were deeply dismayed to see this and find it unacceptable, disrespectful and in very bad taste. We made this clear to the executive producers of the series who apologized immediately for this inadvertent careless mistake. We are sorry this happened and will have it removed from any future DVD production,” HBO said in a statement.
Executive producers have addressed the issue, as well. “We use a lot of prosthetic body parts on the show: heads, arms, etc. We can’t afford to have these all made from scratch, especially in scenes where we need a lot of them, so we rent them in bulk. After the scene was already shot, someone pointed out that one of the heads looked like George W. Bush.”
For those curious parties who own the first season on DVD, the former President’s head appears in episode 10, roughly 12 minutes in. When you get to the part where King Joffrey introduces Sansa Stark to the severed head of her father, you’ll know you’re in the right place.
HBO has also stated that they intend to remove the offending image from future versions of the DVD set. In other words, you’d better snap them up quick before George W. Bush and his severed head vanish from the kingdom forever.
