  • Today, Foursquare has released an update to its Android app that brings back one popular feature and introduces another.

First, “Nearby Friends” view is back. You can now select this view to see only the updates from friends in your area.

“Foursquare is great for looking for places to go and things to try around you. And sometimes, the best place to go next is where your friends are already hanging out. With today’s update for Android, we’ve brought back the option to switch between ‘All Activity’ and ‘Nearby Friends,’ so you can easily keep up with friends in your city. Just tap the options at the bottom of the friends tab to switch between views. The options will disappear as you scroll, and reappear when you scroll back to the top,” says Foursquare in a blog post.

Staying true to their theme of making Foursquare all about discovery, the team has added a new feature to the Android app that allows users to see which of their friends have checked-in at a location, how many times they’ve been there, and whether they liked it or disliked it.

“It’s a great way to help you decide where to go when you’re weighing options,” says Foursquare.

Yesterday, Foursquare unveiled the new “Always on” notifications feature that allows users to keep tabs on friends even if they’re all the way across the world.

You can grab the new Foursquare for Android right now in Google Play.
