Facebook Is Paying People Willing to Use Slingshot for an Hour or Two a Week

  • After recently reminding us that it exists, Facebook’s Slingshot ephemeral messaging app is looking for people to give feedback. And Facebook is willing to pay for it.

“Want to help make Slingshot awesome? Earn at least $200 by joining our panel!” says a signup landing page. “We’re looking for people who use Slingshot to participate in a three month study so we can improve your experience. It’d require about one to two hours per week.”

It’s the subtleties. Note they said “awesome,” not “more awesome.”

People who want to sign up for the panel must first complete a survey, then wait on Facebook to get back to them if they’ve been selected.

Participants will also be rewarded with some “sweet Slingshot swag,” so there’s that.

After launching back in mid-June, Slingshot went global on June 25th. Since then, the buzz surrounding Facebook’s supposed Snapchat competitor (attempt #2) has been, well, a little lacking. As of last week, Slingshot had fallen out of the top 1,000 apps in the App Store.

It looks like people aren’t too keen on a messaging app that makes messaging harder by forcing users to reply to messages before they can even see them.

Maybe someone will bring that up in the panel.
