Facebook announced the launch of a new security feature called the Security Checkup. It lets users quickly evaluate their current security status and take appropriate action.

Users will start seeing a reminder about the Security Checkup at the top of News Feed sometime over the next several weeks. Once you get it and select “get started,” you’ll be presented with a three-step process.

First, you’ll log out of devices you haven’t used in a while or forgot about (if you choose). That way you’re not logged in anywhere you don’t want to be.

From there you can turn on login alerts so Facebook will let you know if your account is logged into from a new device or browser. You can get these alerts via Facebook notification or email.

After that, you can look at tips for keeping a strong/unique password, which the company recommends not using anywhere else online or sharing with anyone. It also suggests avoiding common words that may be easy to guess.

“In just a few easy steps, your account gets some extra protection and you get some extra peace of mind,” says Facebook.

The feature is available now if you want to just go to it here. Otherwise, you’ll be seeing the prompt sometime in the near future. It’s only on desktop for now, but will launch on mobile soon.
