Facebook Expands Demographic Post Targeting for Pages

If you’re the owner of a Facebook page with a decent amount of likes, you’ll soon have the chance to target your posts based on demographics like gender, education, age, location, and more.

Facebook is expanding their post targeting feature to more pages. According to Inside Facebook, the company has told marketers that all pages with 5,000 likes or more will see the feature pop up this week. Admins of the WebProNews Facebook Page, which has around 27,000 likes, now have the ability to target posts.

If you’re unfamiliar with Facebook’s post targeting option for pages, let’s go through it. Whenever you post an link, photo, comment, or whatever as a page admin, you’ll see a little target icon right next to the time schedule and location icons.

From there, you’ll have the option to target users based on seven criteria. You can layer these criteria as well – for instance you could target females with college degrees that speak English. Or males aged 18-34 who are interested in men. As you target, the “targeted to” number will obviously get smaller.

But if you’re looking to direct relevant content to a small subset of your likes, targeting is a pretty impressive tool. It’s important to note that targeting only applies to who sees it in their news feed. The post will still be fully visible on a page’s Timeline, no matter whom it’s targeted to.
