Etsy Teams Up With Polyvore For A Unique Shopping Experience

  • DIY culture is pretty popular these days, and nowhere is it more prevalent than on the crafty website Etsy.

Etsy is a dream come true for anyone who loves handmade, vintage, and unique things, whether they be jewelry, home decor, or a cute dress. The site is home to thousands upon thousands of individual “shops”, which are created by anyone with cool stuff to sell and access to a computer. It’s easy enough to navigate, featuring each category listed on the left-hand side of the page, and each shop has its own section for “likes”. In other words, if you find a necklace you can’t live without but can’t afford until next week, click on the heart-shaped icon to “like” it and have it saved in your searches.

While it’s a handy feature, it’s long been a wish of mine that I could look at all my Etsy loves in one glorious treasure trove, or even put them together on the same page to see, for instance, if the purple scarf I adore matches that vintage dress. Online shopping is made difficult by the fact that you can’t try things on, you can’t compare fabric swatches, and you can’t see how things work together (except in your head).

But all that is now a thing of the past, as Etsy has teamed up with Polyvore to create an online collage of all your favorite things. Basically, it allows you to clip images from different sites and put them together to create outfits, complete with shoes and perfume, much like the back pages of some of your favorite magazines. Here’s an example.

Etsy has been trying to work with Polyvore for years, but the problem was that there wasn’t a good way to link back to the original site for all those clipped images. But recent updates mean each item has it’s very own source link, which takes the user to the page where they can purchase the item.

As a shop owner on Etsy, I’m thrilled at the news, because it means more pageviews and a strong source for sharing my shop’s goodies.
