When Emma Stone flew solo at the Golden Globes and Academy Awards earlier this year, everybody knew that something was up. Recently, several reports claimed that the actress is going through a rough patch with boyfriend Andrew Garfield but their statements are unclear. Some sources assert that the two are simply taking a breather from their three-year relationship while others say that they have already called it quits.
According to People, Stone and Garfield are simply “on a break” due to distance. Garfield is currently in Taiwan for the filming of Martin Scorsese’s Silence while the actress was most recently seen on the other side of the world in Los Angeles. Stone is reportedly spending time with her brother after finishing the production of her new film Aloha.
A source told People that it’s too soon to conclude that the two’s relationship is over. He explained, “Emma understands his (Garfield’s) work anxieties – it’s why she originally pulled out of Cabaret last year and only did it this year – but they’re taking a break from seeing each other. They’re both a slave to their schedules.”
International Business Times also pointed out that Garfield is presently absorbed in his role as a Jesuit priest in Silence. They reported that the actor is in a “dark place mentally” and has lost weight. He has gotten too invested in his role that “he’s not boyfriend material right now.”

Meanwhile, Hollywood Life claims that the two have already split. They wrote that the two were “going on their separate ways” and that they will be happier for their decision.
“They had been fighting a lot and they hadn’t seen each other. They have both been working but they weren’t getting along,” the source revealed.
At this point, no one can exactly tell what Stone and Garfield’s relationship status is except for the two who have remained silent about the issues surrounding them. People’s source agrees with this explaining, “It’s one of those situations where only Andrew and Emma quite know if they’ll pick up where they left off or they’ve separated.”

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield met on the filming of The Amazing Spider-Man where Garfield played the role of the superhero and Stone took on the part of his love interest. They started dating in the fall of 2011 and were last photographed together in New York around early January.
