Have you ever wanted to share a particularly witty Facebook post beyond the confines of the social network? Well, you soon will be able to.
Facebook announced today that it’s in the process of rolling out embedded posts. In essence, the new feature allows you to embed public posts from Facebook to your blog or Web site. It’s pretty obvious, but Facebook reminds us that only posts set to public can be embedded.
Just like with embedded tweets, embedded Facebook posts let people interact with it in a number of ways:
So, how does this embedded post thing work? On the Facebook developer blog, Dave Capra says that you just simply have to hit up the drop down menu at the top right of the post, and select “Embed Post.” Here’s what it looks like:
Unfortunately, not everybody gets to use embedded posts just yet. Facebook says that five news publishers – CNN, Huffington Post, Bleacher Report, People and Mashable – will be able to use embedded posts for now. The social network says that broader availability is coming soon, but doesn’t elaborate on when that will be. If the rollout is anything like it has been for the new news feed, we’re probably going to be waiting for a long time.
