  • Eddie Murphy isn’t dead, so don’t believe anything anyone tells you on Twitter today. The actor/musician is, in fact, alive and well, contrary to reports which claim he passed away during a freak snowboarding accident. The mental image of Murphy snowboarding through Switzerland is beyond hilarious, and the fact that he supposedly died while doing it is a pretty nifty punchline to a very odd joke. As it usually happens in these cases, Murphy didn’t die. His career might be dead, but the man himself is still kicking along.

According to the folks at Global Associated News (via The Inquisitor), Murphy was vacationing with his family in Switzerland when the intrepid snowboarder found himself connecting with a large tree. Although the “Coming to America” star was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, he was pronounced dead on arrival. Naturally, it didn’t take long for this bogus piece to propagate, sending Twitter users into a state of panic.

Curiously, a similar story fashioned around the actor took place back in February, with good ol’ Global Associated News reporting pretty much the same thing. Have a look:

Actor Eddie Murphy is reported to have died shortly after a snowboard accident earlier today – February 3, 2012. The actor & novice snowboarder was vacationing at the Zermatt ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland with family and friends. Witnesses indicate that Eddie Murphy lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed.

In short: Eddie Murphy is not dead, which means that we may still get a sequel to “Norbit” sometime in the future. Hey, a man can dream, can’t he? Twitter users, meanwhile, have been lamenting the man’s death on the popular micro-blogging website. If you’re curious to read some of their reactions, take a peek at the comments below.
