Deutsche Telekom’s Digital Transformation Journey Accelerated by AWS Enterprise Support

Deutsche Telekom, one of the world’s leading telecommunications providers, has been leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS) Enterprise Support since 2021 to drive its digital transformation and enhance customer experiences, according to senior executives at the company.

“AWS enterprise support has been really helpful for our transformation journey since 2021,” said Abhishek Sasa, Senior Director of Engineering at Deutsche Telekom Digital Labs, in a recent customer testimonial shared on the Amazon Web Services YouTube channel.

Deutsche Telekom Digital Labs functions as an extended arm of the telecommunications giant, focusing on creating digital experiences for customers. Sasa, who oversees platform engineering including cloud, DevSecOps, and site reliability engineering practices, highlighted the strategic partnership that has developed between the two organizations.

The collaboration centers around a dedicated technical account manager who partners with Deutsche Telekom on a regular cadence. “We discuss important items related to cost optimization, security governance, new initiatives, and new offerings,” Sasa explained.

A key benefit of the enterprise support relationship has been AWS’s assistance during major events. “We are a big brand, so we do big events on the world stage. Last year we did Euro Cup, and it was a big event for us,” noted Sasa. During these high-profile events, AWS provided tailored solutions including AWS Countdown and AWS OpenSearch Platinum program to ensure reliability and performance.

The partnership has also enabled Deutsche Telekom to modernize its infrastructure by migrating legacy applications to AWS. This modernization effort has yielded significant operational efficiencies, according to company representatives.

Looking toward future collaboration, Deutsche Telekom is particularly interested in exploring AWS’s generative AI offerings. “The generative AI field is very lucrative, and I think Amazon is coming up with some great offerings,” Sasa commented. “Because we have together built that trust between us, I would be more than happy to explore these generative AI offerings in what we do, whether it is chatbots or agentic AI.”

The relationship between Deutsche Telekom and AWS represents a growing trend among telecommunications providers seeking to accelerate digital transformation through cloud partnerships. By leveraging enterprise support services, these companies can access specialized expertise and tailored solutions that address their unique business challenges.

For Deutsche Telekom, the partnership appears to be delivering value across multiple dimensions—from operational efficiency and cost optimization to security governance and innovation exploration. As the company continues to evolve its digital capabilities, the AWS relationship is positioned to support its ambitions in emerging technologies like generative AI.

The collaboration illustrates how enterprise support can extend beyond traditional technical assistance to become a strategic enabler for business transformation in the telecommunications sector, where digital capabilities increasingly define competitive advantage.
