The Bill Cosby scandal has shocked many people, including Debbie Allen. Allen has worked closely with Cosby over the years. She is the sister of Phylicia Rashad, who played Cosby’s TV wife. Allen herself also made appearances on the Cosby Show and the spin-off, A Different World.
Allen recently made an appearance on the Today Show and was asked for her opinion on the Cosby scandal and the allegations against him.
“First of all I don’t think we can even have this conversation honestly in two minutes,” Allen said. “[But the scandal] begs to ask a bigger question: Where is the moral spine in America and in the world today? Because how are we raising our daughters, our sons? Where are we looking for the guidance of how we’re supposed to live?”

Allen seemed to imply that she just couldn’t imagine how someone like Bill Cosby could commit such crimes.
“Cosby gave us one of the greatest shows in history, and redefined the perception of black people all over the world,” Allen explained.
She went on to say that she feels that women need to stand up for themselves and if Cosby did sexually abuse the women who claim that he did, than he deserves to be punished and they deserve justice.
“At the same time, I’m a part of One Billion Rising,” she said. “This is a movement for women to stand up against violence and denigration of women. This is a tough situation, and it’s just hard to believe.”
“If there’s a problem, then we have to try to get some help for that,” she added.
Cosby nor his attorneys have commented on the lawsuit that was filed against him earlier this week, but he has previously denied the allegations of rape and sexual abuse.
