Dave Chappelle Finally Gets a Twitter Account

Reclusive comedian Dave Chappelle finally has a real Twitter page. The “Chappelle Show” comedian’s page was created on Tuesday and already has about 150,000 followers.

So far Chappelle has mostly made fun of Twitter itself; joking about the number of followers he has, other so-called official Dave Chappelle Twitter accounts, and the tendency of Tweeters to not have anything significant to say…

Since his abrupt trip to South Africa, ending the third season of The Chapelle Show, Chappelle has mostly avoided the spotlight. Since then he has been vocal about the reason for his sudden disappearance and cancellation of the show stating on Inside the Actors Studio, “I would go to work on the show and I felt awful every day, that’s not the way it was. … I felt like some kind of prostitute or something. If I feel so bad, why keep on showing up to this place? I’m going to Africa. The hardest thing to do is to be true to yourself, especially when everybody is watching.”

Chappelle felt that some of his sketches during the third season were “social irresponsible,” citing a specific scetch in which pixies appear to people encouraging them to reinforce their race’s stereotypes. Chappelle caught a crew member laughing in a way that made him feel uncomfortable. According to Chappelle, “it was the first time I felt someone was not laughing with me, but laughing at me.”

Chappelle has since done a few stand-up gigs, including setting stand-up endurance records in 2007, but has mostly remained hidden, living in his 65 acre farm in Ohio. Let’s hope this is the beginning of his return to the limelight.
