  • A few weeks ago, I announced the Dancing With The Stars Season 14 cast along with showing you their first rehearsal photos. Now, season 14 of Dancing With The Stars is finally here, and what an entertainment-packed show it was! In my opinion, for the 14 seasons that I have been watching this show, I think this was the best premiere show so far.

Along with the dances (which I will get to soon), the hit dancing show is starting integrate tweets from users between dances. This way, the show can be more interactive with its audience by showing reactions from other Dancing With The Stars viewers. Randomly selected positive tweets with the hashtag of #DWTS will be displayed in the corner of the screen after each dance has been performed. Who knows? If you publish a tweet including the #DWTS hashtag during the show, your tweet may appear on live national television.

To summarize the dances of the show, I have provided a mini commentary from each of the dances that happened on tonight’s season 14 premiere:

Maria Menounos & Derek Hough (Cha Cha)

    • Great start to the show dancing to “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson
    • A little slow, but good choreography (Derek is always one of the pros that give content-rich performances).
    • Scores: 7 + 7 + 7 = 21
    • Jack Wagner & Anna Trebunskaya (Foxtrot)

    • Cute “Wizard of Oz”-looking performance to “Sugar Town” by Nancy Sinatra.
    • Jack held a good frame, and was very smooth in his footwork.
    • Scores: 8 + 7 + 8 = 23
    • Donald Driver & Peta Peta Murgatroyd (Cha Cha)

    • Donald kept a good lead throughout the dance, along with executing sharp and precise Rond de Jambes.
    • Donald needs to work on his Latin hip action.
    • Scores: 7 + 7 + 7 = 21
    • Gavin DeGraw & Karina Smirnoff (Foxtrot)

    • The performance as a whole seemed rough and lacked fluidity.
    • Not enough Foxtrot-related content within the dance.
    • Scores: 7 + 6 + 7 = 20
    • Roshon Fegan & Chelsie Hightower (Cha Cha)

    • Roshon expressed lots of confidence during the dance.
    • Too much hip-hop based content in the dance and not enough Foxtrot-related content.
    • Scores: 8 + 7 + 8 = 23
    • Sherri Shepherd & Val Chmerkovskiy (Foxtrot)

    • Sherri executed very good footwork while in hold.
    • Sherri displayed the elegance that she thought she lacked.
    • Scores: 8 + 7 + 8 = 23
    • Melissa Gilbert & Maksim Chmerkovskiy (Cha Cha)

    • Melissa executed poor Rond de Jambes, along with poor Latin hip action.
    • The dance as a whole turned out to be not as sexy as the practice footage made it seem.
    • Scores: 7 + 6 + 7 = 20
    • William Levy & Cheryl Burke (Cha Cha)

    • William gave Cheryl good leads, and also presented very well executed Latin hip action.
    • Scores: 8 + 8 + 8 = 24
    • Martina Navratilova & Tony Dovolani (Foxtrot)

    • A very elegant performance provided by Martina.
    • While in hold, leads and steps were executed very slow and gentle.
    • Content was filled with very simple and basic moves (cross-body leads, under-arm turns, etc.)
    • Scores: 7 + 6 + 7 = 20
    • Katherine Jenkins & Mark Ballas (Foxtrot)

    • A very elegant performance executed by Katherine.
    • Katherine displayed great lines and arm placement throughout the dance.
    • Very smooth transitions between steps.
    • The best performance of the night (in my opinion).
    • Scores: 9 + 8 + 9 = 26
    • Gladys Knight & Tristan MacManus (Cha Cha)

    • Gladys danced with great musicality and character.
    • Technique was executed too carefully and without any hip action.
    • Scores: 8 + 7 + 8 = 23
    • Jaleel White & Kym Johnson (Foxtrot)

    • Jaleel executed great leads throughout the dance.
    • Charisma and character were seen during the whole performance.
    • Scores: 9 + 8 + 9 = 26
