Five men have been arrested for allegedly plotting to blow up an Ohio bridge.
Authorities say the public was never in danger, because the FBI had been monitoring the men for some time and were in control of the explosives to be used. The group had plans to destroy the Brecksville-Northfield bridge and were also plotting to knock down signs from financial buildings in downtown Cleveland as well as attack several government buildings.
The men, who are self-proclaimed anarchists, placed plastic explosives–which had secretly been rendered useless by undercover FBI agents–at the base of the bridge last night and were planning to blow it up with a remote. Douglas L. Wright, 26, Brandon L. Baxter, 20, Anthony Hayne, 35, Connor C. Stevens, 20, and Joshua S. Stafford, 23 will face a judge today on charges of conspiracy and attempted use of explosive materials to damage property affecting interstate commerce. The men are not connected to international terrorists.
