Charlize Theron has been dating Sean Penn for over seven months now. They’re both adults. But Charlize Theron’s friends are reportedly worried about her with Sean Penn.

Penn’s bad boy past is the stuff of legend. Long before TMZ and run-ins with paparazzi were a passé, daily thing, Sean Penn was getting sued for punching out photographers who got up in his face. Nobody really blames him much for that.

But Penn also had a run-in with the law when he was charged with domestic assault for hitting his then-wife Madonna with a baseball bat. That was a felony charge, but he pleaded it down to a misdemeanor. But it is the details in the police report that make you cringe.

According to the Daily Mail, Penn tied Madonna to a chair with heavy twine and threatened to cut off her hair. According to the police report, Penn was “drinking liquor straight from the bottle” and he smacked and roughed up his victim. He went out for more booze while she was bound and gagged. Later he came back and started in on her again.

According to one policeman who took her report later, “I hardly recognized her as Madonna. She was weeping, her lip was bleeding and she had obviously been struck.”

This is the sort of thing that reportedly makes Theron’s friends nervous.

“They’re urging her to think twice before finally heading down the aisle with Sean,” one friend said. “They fear for her safety.”

Friends are particularly concerned because Penn has reportedly moved in with Theron and her two-year-old adopted son, Jackson.

Between Madonna and Theron, Sean Penn was with Robin Wright for over 20 years. Perhaps he has mellowed?
