Charlize Theron and Sean Penn have allegedly split after one and a half years of dating.

Theron, 39, reportedly dumped Penn, 54, as told by multiple sources to Us Weekly.

The Oscar-award winning couple have known each other for almost two decades before they got into a romantic relationship.

Theron said in an interview with Vogue that she was surprised that their friendship turned into romance.

“I really didn’t see it coming. Sean and I have known each other for 18 years. We were just really good friends. It was effortless and kind of naturally happened, and before I knew it, I was in something that was making my life better,” the actress said.

Us Weekly reported in December last year that Penn and Theron had gotten secretly engaged during an outing to Paris, France. But there was no specific proposal that occurred. According to one source, “there’s no ring, but they are committed.”

In March 2015, Penn confirmed that he had made up his mind about marrying Theron, not considering that his previous marriages turned into failures.

“You say I’ve been married twice before, but I’ve been married under circumstances where I was less informed than I am today,” the actor told Esquire UK. “So I wouldn’t even consider (marrying Theron as) a third marriage, I’d consider it a first marriage on its own terms if I got married again. I mean, I like the tradition. A friend of mine wrote a line, ‘Without tradition, new things die.’ And I don’t want new things to die.”

In April this year, Theron expressed much excitement after telling the same magazine, “I’m a very, very, very lucky girl. Very lucky. He’s hot.”

However, those thoughts and feelings must have vanished as the two decided to call it quits.
