Charlie Sheen exited the successful show that made him a television star four years ago, and now, as the cast prepares to wrap up the series, fans are wondering whether or not he’ll make an appearance for the finale.

While nothing has been confirmed, star Jon Cryer said recently that the sometimes-volatile actor would be welcome back to the set.

“I would always like to see Charlie back, whether on the finale or in life. He was a great friend for eight-and-a-half years. I always hope the best for him. I honestly don’t know if he’ll be on our last show, but it certainly won’t be because people here don’t love him,” Cryer said.

CBS hasn’t given a clear answer as to whether or not they’ll bring back old characters to send the show off in style–or addressed how they would even do that with Sheen’s character, who was killed off–but executive producer Chuck Lorre says that fans will be happy with their decisions.

“I think we’re going to have a finale you’re going to be very pleased with and that’s all I’m going to say about it,” Lorre said.

Cryer opened up a bit about the departure of Angus T. Jones, the young actor who played his son for several seasons before denouncing the show in an interview and calling it “filth”. His character was sent off to war to explain his absence.

“The Angus thing threw me. Did not see that coming. The stuff with Charlie … that was different,” Cryer said.

Charlie Sheen said last year that he would like to be a part of the final season in some way and had reached out to the show’s producers to try and figure things out.

“I’ve reached out to them and they’ve reached back. We’re trying to figure out what makes the most sense. If they figure it out like I’ve presented it to them and they want to include me in some final send-off, I’m available and I’m showing up early. If not, it’s on them,” Charlie Sheen said.
