Catherine Zeta-Jones has been handed a new role, and it should be quite interesting.
She will be portraying real-life drug lord Griselda Blanco in the upcoming true crime biopic, The Godmother.
Catherine Zeta-Jones was fantastic as a drug lord’s ruthless wife in Traffic back in 2000.
But this time, she gets to play the first and only woman to ever rise to the rank of Colombian drug lord.
Griselda Blanco has a fascinating life story that will surely make a riveting biopic.
She was born in Cartagena, Colombia and soon grew up to become a runaway and teenage prostitute. She then emigrated to New York to start a thriving cocaine business in league with her husband.
After facing drug charges, she fled back to her home country of Colombia, but reappeared in Miami just in time to establish a drug network that connected New York, Miami, LA, and Colombia.

Her prolific drug activities made her a multi-millionaire in her forties. She reportedly ordered the killing of hundreds to remain in power, which earned her the nickname La Madrina, or Black Widow.
She was also known as the Cocaine Godmother.
She was arrested in 1985 and served 18 years in prison. She was released in 2004 and returned to Colombia. It was there that the mother of four was shot and killed in a drive-by assasination.
Catherine Zeta-Jones has some pretty violent shoes to fill, but after some of her tougher roles, perhaps she can handle it.
