Carrie-Anne Moss of The Matrix is joining Netflix’s Jessica Jones in what is being called a “gender-bent” roll.
During a panel discussion for the upcoming show at New York Comic Con on Saturday, Marvel’s head of television, Jeph Loeb, announced the news that the character, Jeryn Hogarth, would be undergoing a gender-bend.
Carrie-Anne Moss, who joined the cast on stage, will be playing the new twist to the character with the name Jeri Hogarth.

Originally, Jeryn Hogarth was a brilliant lawyer and business executive. Working under the pervue of Wendall Rand, who was known as the father of Danny Rand (a.k.a. the Iron Fist), Jeryn eventually became the head of Heroes for Hire, an organization that offers legal help to a slew of superheroes.
According to Entertainment Weekly, in Marvel comics lore, Jeryn Hogarth also has connections to Luke Cage.
“They’re not friends but they need each other,” Moss said of Hogarth’s relationship with Jessica Jones. “They come to each other in these scenes, and there’s a lot of back and forth and bad flirtation at times, in life. They’re funny together and can’t stand each other. It’s interesting.”

Polygon reports that it is unclear exactly what Moss’ role will be in the show, but they are assuming that she’ll be working closely with the series’ titular character as an attorney.
Krysten Ritter, who plays Jones, said the relationship between Hogarth and Jones is an interesting one, to say the least.
“It’s by far the most complex and interesting and special friendship between two women that I’ve seen in a movie or television,” Ritter said. “We’re there for each other in ways that we don’t see, but we’re never talking about a dude or an outfit. It’s a really pure bond.”
Jessica Jones will stream on Netflix beginning Nov. 20.
