Carly Rae Jepsen sat down for an interview with Billboard recently, and along with talking about her new album, she dove a bit into the way the media treats her buddy Justin Bieber.
Bieber had a hand in discovering Jepsen and she’s now signed to his manager Scooter Braun’s label, School Boy Records. Jepsen says she’s been so busy with her new project that she doesn’t keep up with all the drama surrounding the pop star, but she does think the media hypes things up a little.
“I actually am so out of the loop on any of that, to be honest,” she said. “People are constantly, like, ‘Is Justin OK?’ I’ve not really noticed any of that. I feel like Justin’s a guy who’s working hard every day, and I think the media can sometimes be a little brutal with stuff and over-exaggerate things. But I stand by him. I support him. I think he’s a good guy, and he’s doing the best he can.”
Bieber has been in the headlines quite a bit this year, between reported make-ups and break-ups with longtime girlfriend Selena Gomez, alleged reckless driving, and issues at shows. In March, Bieber took the stage late at a scheduled concert in London and was later reported being seen wandering around town shirtless; he took to Twitter to shoot down those allegations.
In May, he was attacked onstage at a show in Dubai by a crazed fan, and earlier this month, he was accused of driving at high speeds through a neighborhood. Rapper Tyler The Creator later took the blame for it, but witnesses don’t believe it.
