    But you may be surprised to discover that the busts are actually made of paper, carved down from a thick stack of phone books. That’s right: phone books. In an ever-evolving digital world, things like phone books, newspapers, and magazines make for a great statement to be used in Chen’s art.

    “I observed that the computer revolution was changing the book,” said Chen. “Libraries were de-accessioning them. This gave me the idea for the book as material.”
