When Pinterest first started gaining steam in the wide world of social networking, it quickly developed a sort of female-centric reputation. That in no way means that men couldn’t utilize the service in all the awesome ways that woman could, it simply means that it was all chicks. Seriously, it was like bizzarro-world Google+ in there. Those gender dynamics have leveled out a bit in recent months, but it still seems like a female-dominated medium.
That wasn’t the only determination that people made about Pinterest early on. There was also a certain type of thing that you were likely to see on the site. Recipes, (sometimes) funny motivational-type graphics, home design. It became a thing – you would see something somewhere on the interwebs and say “That would blow up on Pinterest” or “I bet that came from Pinterest.”
Today’s Twitter parody account of the day plays on some of these stereotypes about a typical Pinterest-style post. It’s called PicturelessPinterest, and it’s actually a lot funnier than you may think.
With PicturelessPinterest, you can experience everything you would experience on Pinterest, without actually ever having to log in to Pinterest! Here are some of the best so far:
The singer Adele wrapped a wooly blanket
A decorative wreath made out of pinecones
A black and white photo of Channing Tatum
Attractive woman eating a grapefruit
Jello shooters shaped like tiny watermelon slices
Large poster reads “Keep Calm and Ask Mom”
There are only about a dozen other than those so far, but PicturelessPinterest has only been tweeting since April 18th. They’ve already amassed over 10,000 followers though. I’ll follow – I’ve always liked the thought of Pinterest more than actually being on Pinterest – so this is perfect. It’s pretty much my favorite Twitter parody account since @oldmansearch.
Although we could probably already dub 2012 as “the year of the Pin,” recent reports have suggested that Pinterest‘s user base is eroding. Maybe too many photos of Adele in a wooly blanket?
