The Assassin’s Creed series is beautiful in that it allows players to tackle assassinations in any way they see fit. That being said, a lot of players opt to just go in with guns blazing instead of taking the stealthier approach. Ubisoft has played up the more bombastic elements of the series at recent press events, but stealth fans will be happy to know that Ubisoft isn’t forgetting them in the latest entry.
Ashraf Ismail, game director on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, recently visited IGN to show off 7 minutes of stealth gameplay from the title. Some stealth missions will require players to investigate an area without any weapons or armor. Players will be able to pick up weapons off of fallen enemies, but they can also just sneak their way through undetected.
Ismail also says that players can accept contract assassinations that aren’t part of the main story. With these, players will be tasked to stalk and kill a minor Templar figure. If players remain unnoticed, they will receive a cash bonus.
Everything we’ve seen thus far makes it apparent that the team at Ubisoft Montreal took the criticisms of Assassin’s Creed III to heart, and are working to make Black Flag the best Assassin’s Creed game yet. That’s a tall order as the Assassin’s Creed II trilogy remains one of the best experiences of this generation, but Assassin’s Creed IV may just have what it takes.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag launches October 29 for Xbox 360 and PS3. The PS4 and Xbox One versions will launch alongside their respective console launches, and the PC version will launch in November.
