The first Apple media event of 2012 will focus on publishing, according to multiple reports.
The New York City event will reportedly feature Apple SVP of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue and will “not involve any hardware at all and instead will focus on publishing and eBooks (sold through Apple’s iBooks platform) rather than iAds. Attendance will also be more publishing industry-oriented than consumer-focused,” according to a source.
They also noted that the event will have to do with improvements to the platform, and is not anything “major.”
So it appears that the end-of-January event won’t have anything to do with the iPad 3 or AppleTV, but it’s not too much of a stretch to expect some new hardware announcements sometime soon.
The last time Apple (and Eddy Cue) held a media event in New York, they launched the iPad-only magazine The Daily in February of 2011.
