Apple Scotland Commercial Shows Siri’s Accent Problem

  • One of the biggest complaints about Siri since the iPhone 4S launched last October has been her difficulty with non-North American accents. Though there are some customization options that allow users to optimize Siri to handle their accent, they don’t always get the job done. The Scottish accent has proven particularly difficult for Siri to handle. While she does a decent job with other British accents (as long as your settings are tuned to UK English), Scots with thick accents seem to be more or less out of luck.

    A new video posted to YouTube yesterday attempts to show some of the difficulties that Scots unlucky enough to have a particularly broad accent face when trying to use Apple’s revolutionary personal assistant. Please note that the language isn’t quite safe for work. If you find phrases like “fookin’ coo” or “fer fook’s saek” offensive, you might want to skip this one.
