While perhaps not to the extent of Yahoo’s, Apple appears to be on something of a little acquisition spree of its own. The company has now acquired AlgoTrim.

While AlgoTrim has not updated its News page since March, 2012, All Things D reports that it has confirmed with Apple that it has indeed acquired the company. Apple itself typically doesn’t make such announcements, and they tend to be fairly secretive about their intentions.

The company gave All Things D the standard “yes, we acquire companies, but we don’t comment on what we’re doing with them” response (paraphrased).

AlgoTrim, according to its homepage, develops advanced solutions for mobile devices within the fields of data compression, mobile imaging and video, and computer graphics.

“These solutions are designed to excel in terms of high performance and small memory requirements, making them ideal for mobile devices,” it says. “Many solutions offered by AlgoTrim are codecs that are the fastest on the market, for example, the lossless codec for general data compression and the imaging codecs.”

The page also says, “Do we work with Android? Yes, of course, and we just love to work with Android.”

Again, this site doesn’t look like it’s been updated in a while. Interestingly enough, there’s not even mention of iOS on the page.
