For people of a certain age, “Anchorman” is one of those movies that just grew and grew in cult status until it became a classic in the vein of Adam Sandler’s “Billy Madison” or, well, like any number of other Will Ferrell movies. It is oft-quoted and highly revered in the world of silly comedy, and fans have been begging for a sequel practically since it was released.
Now it looks like they may get their wish. Ferrell, dressed as his “Anchorman” character Ron Burgundy and wielding a flute, showed up on Conan last night to announce that he has forged a deal with Paramount Pictures to do a sequel, which sent the audience into wild applause. Facebook and Twitter feeds immediately blew up with the news and with video of Burgundy’s appearance on the Conan stage.
Back in 2010, “Anchorman” director Adam McKay told MTV that talks of a sequel were in the works even back then, and that most of the original cast members were willing to sign on for it despite having to take a significant pay cut due to budgetary restrictions.
The film, which obviously is still in the early conception stage, is said to be set in the ’80s, a decade which could lend itself well to all sorts of shenanigans. I might have to go buy myself a nice new pair of slacks to celebrate.
I feel like we’ve all won the lotto. Anchorman 2 gettin done.
So we’re gonna have a huge group go to the movies for “Anchorman 2” like in high school right?
By The Beard of Zeus, Ron Burgundy has announced there will be an Anchorman 2 🙂
Seriously this is what I get for going to sleep early ??? Missing the broadcast announcement of anchorman 2?! I’m never sleeping again.
