  • Amy Schumer has confirmed that she was asked to take over for Jon Stewart after he leaves The Daily Show, saying she didn’t feel as if the position was a right fit for the comedian.

Amy Schumer was one of the names floating about to take over for Stewart on the popular Comedy Central show. It wasn’t a stretch to think Schumer was a shoo-in to take over as host considering her long relationship with the network, including her own series, Inside Amy Schumer.

Schumer told The Daily Beast that she was offered the Daily Show hosting job but turned it down.

“I was so honored to be asked and considered,” Schumer said of the offer. “With Comedy Central, I project so much ‘You’re my parents!’ on the network and the people that run it, so them saying, ‘We believe in you and trust that you can do this,’ I thought, ‘Oh my god, thank you!’”

Amy said the excitement turned into something else the more she thought about it.

“And then I thought, ‘Well, I could give everyone I love a job and we could all be together for five years.’ But picturing being in a building and knowing what I was going to do for five years — I love not knowing,” Schumer said. “And I’ve never done anything safe or to make money for that reason. So, you know, I said, ‘I can’t start now.’”

Trevor Noah ultimately was named as Stewart’s replacement.

The New York Times reported that both Amy Poehler and Chris Rock had been approached to replace Stewart. The Times reported that Poehler gave them “the quickest no in history,” while Chris Rock told the newspaper he didn’t want to host the show after the 2016 election.
