Would Cher, the main character from the Amy Heckerling’s 1995 comedy “Clueless”, support her real world counterpart’s peculiar method of feeding her son?

As if!

Last month, actress Alicia Silverstone posted a very odd video featuring her incredibly unusual approach to child nutrition, a clip that went on to be something of a viral sensation. If you don’t want to watch the original video, I’ll save you the trouble: Instead of using a bottle or baby-friendly utensils to feed her child, Silverstone chews up the boy’s food and spits it directly into his mouth. My knee-jerk reaction to the video was to visibly gag on my cereal.

According to Silverstone, the method is actually quite “natural”.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actress attempted to explain the process to those of us who feel the need to projectile vomit every time someone brings it up. “I can understand that it would make some people feel uncomfortable, possibly, because it’s new to them.”

“It’s a part of the weaning process,” she continued, “so while I’m still breast-feeding it’s just a way to introduce him to food when he doesn’t have teeth and things like that and he can’t chew.”

Gross.

So what sort of food is Silverstone chewing into an easily-digestible wad before oozing the material directly into her kid’s mouth? It isn’t peas and carrots, that’s for sure.

From her original blog post:

I just had a delicious breakfast of miso soup, collards and radish steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mochi with nori wrapped outside, and some grated daikon. Yum! I fed Bear the mochi and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup…from my mouth to his. It’s his favorite…and mine. He literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I’m eating. This video was taken about a month or 2 ago when he was a bit wobbly. Now he is grabbing my mouth to get the food!

Good Lord. Of course, this article has been written by a guy who doesn’t have children, so maybe this sort of peculiar behavior is natural when you’ve decided to have a kid. Then again, maybe not. I know a few parents who were pretty disgusted by this story, so I doubt it’s a widespread practice. Thank God for that.

If you missed the original video, have a look by investigating the clip embedded below. Twitter reactions have also been fairly amusing, a few of which have been included, as well.
