Lack of food rations. No electricity. Broken government. Money is meaningless. Lawlessness. Sounds like the end of the world, doesn’t it? To Wyoming it sure does, and accordingly the state government has drafted a bill to prepare for the consummate collapse of society so that the Equality State can march onward into a future uncertain.

House Bill 85, which is being risibly touted as a “Doomsday Bill,” was briefly on the menu for the Wyoming House of Representatives this past Tuesday, which would have made provisions against all of the aforementioned symptoms of the end of the world. In essence, with armageddon bearing down on us and the United States government at a loss to help its citizens, House Bill 85 would have called for the assembly of a task force capable of governing the fair state of Wyoming through the dark lands of armageddon.

As far as the composition of the task force goes, it would have contained the types of dignitaries you might expect to protect the the citizens of Wyoming should the end of the world arise: four members of state government, director of homeland security, the attorney general, and a couple of energy and agriculture specialists. This nine-member squad would be all that stands between Wyoming and the depravity that surely sweeps across the United States once the bottom falls out of society.

House Bill 85 was eventually voted down, but just narrowly. Republican Rep. David Miller, the bill’s sponsor, said that while he didn’t expect America to slip off into armageddon anytime soon, the mounting national debt and active protests seen throughout the country inspired in him concern that Wyoming needs protection. And not just any protection, either: they want an aircraft carrier.

And in case that joke buzzes over you, consider: aircraft carriers need an ocean. Now, go look at where Wyoming is on a map.

What’s more incredible than the end of the world? Miller didn’t even really seem to take his own bill seriously. After it was rejected, he shared his wonderment that the bill even made it as far as it did. “I think the political class here in Cheyenne has a little myopic view of the world in relation of what government can do to people,” Miller said.

The Twitter class, however, has a bemused view of the world of Wyoming:

Wyoming is the Equality State, and this bill does not represent the people of Wyoming.

    • Sid Pink

God control everything. He no have tiem for speling or gramer.

You sound like a Chinese menu.

I liked this bill. I am glad that someone is actually doing or thinking about the future of Wyoming. If you know anything about how far apart the cities of Wyoming are then if there was a disaster air travel would be neccessary to get provisions to the people. I am glad our representatives are looking out for us. I love Wyoming.

    • Sid Pink

An aircraft carrier is an enormous ocean-going vessel.

Good thing our government here in Wyo is using common sense. It is better to be prepared than sorry. The Mormons has the answer and that is be prepared for what comes such as home and family and stay out of debt. Have food storage and other needs of means for survivel. Are you prepared?

    • Sid Pink

Can one ever truly be prepared for Mormons?

  • Eric (Redding, Ca)

At least there are a few political leaders who actually get what is really happening. To bad they are only in the state of Wyoming. I hope that my family and myself will be able to make it into Wyoming after what will happen, happens. Those in power now love to see their constituents with their heads in the sand.Go ahead and ridicule now, you won’t be later.

    • Sid Pink

Have no illusions. We will always hate Californians. You and your family will be eaten if you venture here during lawlessness.
Best to move here while the Fed is still up and running; we’ll just give you the finger at every stoplight.

  • Brenda (Cheyenne, Wy)

Great… the WyomingLegislature just made us all look lije a bunch of idiots.really?!…an aircraft carrier in land locked Wyoming?!.. I hope common sense prevails and sees the Legislature dosent represent we nornal people of Wyoming. I was shocked to hear of this bill and even more shocked that it was “narrowly” defeated! It shouldnt have even made it in the Capitol building in the first place!

    • Sid Pink

In four sentences and one sentence fragment, I count eleven spelling/grammar/syntax errors.
Are we certain that the Legislature making us look like idiots “dosent represent we nornal people of Wyoming”?

Hey to all you people from Wyoming talking down on this, shame on you. You must not have a grasp of how this are SUPPOSED to work in this country. States are supposed to take care of themselves; we were built to be a Republic. What your state was doing was exercising this, and this is a great thing. Your state was flexing its muscle and showing that it didn’t need to rely on Washington when the SHTF. I could only wish that my state would do something like this. It would give me a lot more faith and make me feel pretty damn good about the state I live in considering they are preemptively worrying about THEIR CITIZENS and taking steps they feel necessary to help protect them if the situation were to arise. I admit the aircraft carrier thing was a bit ridiculous, but if that’s what you’re going to hone in on then that basically shows the level of mentality that you have and the level of understanding you have in the way this country is supposed to operate. Hint, the reason this country is the way it is currently, is because we gotten away from those foundations. Yep, people thinking exactly like you do… Wake up!

    • Sid Pink

Jesus Christ. Are you still talking?
      Get a blog, dude.

This is the third source I have read about this Wyoming armagedon or doomsday bill. I was laughing so hard when I read that members of the GOP added fighter jets and an aircraft carrier to this bill in their attempt make fun of the bill. I think the governor made a comment about needing a bigger lake to accommodate the aircraft carrier. To make matters even worse, Wyoming voted this bill down 30-27 when the bill should have been voted down 1-56.

  • Russell

Aircraft carrier? Absolutely necessary. After the caldera goes we’ll have one mighty big lake to patrol.

  • Ty Stuart

WOW! You kool-aid drinkers need to take a break and look around at what this nation is up against. You think you know it all but know nothing about the “frontier spirit” that is a part of Wyoming’s people. I for one am PROUD OF WYOMING and grateful for our style of government. All I ask is when things are getting bad for you DON’T COME CRYING TO US FOR HELP we wont give it, thank you very much! We don’t't need or want your kind here taking up our precious air. Your ignorance and lack of an education out shines your bullshit!
    A proud Wyoming resident!
