On Google’s weekly Zeitgeist list, at least five of the top ten gaining queries are usually people’s names. The concept of an “ego search” has pretty much spread throughout our society. And companies like Pipl and Spock have based their entire reputation and business on “people search.” Yes, people search is a big deal.

Last night in the hallway I heard about Spock, a new personal search service that will get turned on next week at the Web 2.0 Expo. I heard that TechCrunch will have a preview of the service soon, maybe even later today.
But, the person telling me this was alarmed at how much easier it was to troll through someone’s personal history than it is on Google or other search engines.
Spock Mind Melds With $7 Million

A search engine company with a sci-fi name and a bare-bones website "received $7 million in a Series A funding round from Clearstone Venture Partners and Opus Capital Ventures" earlier this week. The company, known as "Spock," describes itself as "the world's largest people search engine."
