Google Gets Serious About 411

Thomsom, maker of GE-branded telephones, has teamed up with Google to release a number of GE phones with a prominent GOOG-411 button above the keypad. Pressing the button will call Google’s toll free voice controlled business search service.
AOL Releases MyAOL for Cell Phones

It seems AOL wasn’t too serious about dropping the “AOL” part from their future products. After some beta testing, AOL is today launching MyAOL (a customizable mobile desktop) and a regular mobile portal for those not into the whole tweaking thing.

Cell Phone Users Attached To Phones

When it comes to cell phones 63 percent of users say they have a very personal connection to their mobiles according to a Harris Interactive poll released by Ingenio.
The poll revealed that 44 percent of mobile users say their phones have improved their personal relationships. Sixty-six percent of women said that their cell phones were personal to them while 60 percent of men said the same.

However mobile Internet use still represents only a fraction of computer-based Web usage, but that could change with companies like Microsoft who see increasingly powerful mobile phones and faster networks opening the door for new services and content.

Cerf: Cell Phones To Drive Internet Growth

There are about 5.5 billion people on the planet. Roughly 2.5 billion of them use cell phones.
Only 1.1 billion surf the Web.
So when Vinton G. Cerf, who currently serves as Google’s vice president, states that mobile phones will fuel the growth of the Internet, well . . . maybe we should believe him.
“The mobile phone has become an important factor in the Internet revolution,” said Cerf. “You will get those other 5.5 billion people only when affordability increases and the cost of communication goes down.”
