Amazon remains mum on the issue; there's no telling if we'll ever find out how many Kindles the company's moving. There has been a documented rise in eBook sales, however, and it doesn't seem unreasonable to connect A and B.

As you're reading this, let me be the first to tell you, you're hopelessly out of touch with the world according to Steve Jobs: “It doesn’t matter how good or bad the product is, the fact is that people don’t read anymore. 40% percent of the people in the U.S. read one book or less last year. When the Amazon Kindle first came out, we kind of laughed at it; limited by battery life and with a $400 price tag, it allowed you do nothing more than read separately purchased books. Now, we're still not ready to embrace the thing, but it turns out that the Kindle is a little better than most people previously believed.

I wouldn’t mind keeping over 200 books close at hand, and I’d prefer not to need a large suitcase to do it. But Amazon’s new e-book reader is nonetheless looking less and less appealing as the analyses roll in.
