MySpace Parent Company Laying Off 100 Jobs

myspacelogoIn a move that won’t surprise as many people as it would have this time last year, Fox Interactive Media has announced it will be cutting its workforce by as many as 100 jobs. Fox is the parent company of social network site MySpace as well as Photobucket and various mobile sites.

U.S. Internet users watched 12.7 billion online videos during the month of November, representing an increase of 34 percent over a year ago, according to comScore Video Metrix.

Google sites were again the top U.S. video property with nearly 5.1 billion videos viewed (representing a 40 percent share of all videos viewed), with YouTube accounting for more than 98 percent of all videos viewed at the property.

U.S. Internet users watched 13.5 billion online videos during October, marking a 45 percent increase compared to a year ago, according to comScore Video Metrix.

In October, Google sites once again dominated, ranking as the top U.S. video property with 5.3 billion videos viewed (representing a 40 percent share of all video viewed) with YouTube accounting for more than 98 percent of all videos viewed at the property.

Redlasso Closes Blogger Access Due To Lawsuit

Online video news sharing site Redlasso said today that it is suspending blogger access to its video search and clipping service while it fights a copyright infringement lawsuit filed this week by NBC and Fox News Channel.

The company said it will continue to provide services to its business and radio clients.

Fox Launches Online Community For Viewers

The Fox Network has partnered with social networking service Passenger to launch an online community for viewers of Fox programs.

The community targets viewers between the ages of 18 to 49 who watch Fox programming. The goal of the community is to allow user to provide feedback to Fox about its programming and marketing campaigns.

For the month of February Google Sites were again the top U.S. video property with nearly 3.6 billion videos viewed (35.4% share of all videos), gaining 1.1 share points over January according to comScore Video Metrix.

U.S. Internet users viewed more than 10 billion videos online during the month, a three percent increase over January and a 66 percent gain over February 2007.

Hulu Set To Launch Publicly

Hulu the online joint video venture between News Corp and NBC Universal will make its public debut on Wednesday.

The video site will feature free, ad-supported full length TV episodes along with movies from NBC, Fox and more than 50 media companies including Sony Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Some of the TV offerings on Hulu include "The Simpsons", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and 100 films including "The Big Lebowski" and "Mulholand Drive."

If you want to learn about the Fox Business Network, foxbusinessnetwork.com is not the place to do it.  That domain name belongs to Worldwide Directory Services, and, according to a ruling by the World International Property Organization, WDS will continue to be its owner.
