Game publishers increasingly rely on Twitter to let their fans know about the latest games and news that matters. It’s rare to see a major publisher rely on the micro-blogging service use Twitter exclusively to reveal a launch date, but Bethesda just did that.

The publisher announced on Friday exclusively through Twitter that Dawnguard, the new expansion for Skyrim, would be launching on June 26 for Xbox 360. For those who have lost track of their dates, that’s this upcoming Tuesday. Xbox 360-owning fans of Skyrim don’t have much longer to wait to get their vampire slaying or joining on. The expansion will cost 1600 MS points ($20) and contains about 20 hours worth of content.

As you can see, the Tweet also announces that update 1.6 will be hitting the FIGS (French, Italian, German, Spanish) version of Skyrim the week after with Dawnguard hitting FIGS in July. These dates are important as they might have an impact on the wider availability of Dawnguard for PS3 and PC. It remains unseen whether or not PS3 and PC players will have to wait till after the english release or the FIGS release to get Dawnguard. Either way, it seems like the wait will be worth it.

For those new to this whole Dawnguard thing, the expansion will task players with either joining the Dawnguard or the vampires as both factions want to either preserve or destroy the sun respectively. Here’s the official trailer for the expansion which gives us a great look at the new vampires being introduced in Skyrim.

They announced the release date way before, at E3… Todd Howard himself looked into a camera and said June 26th. The Twitter announcement was just a reminder.

All I ever heard was “This summer.” I guess I missed that announcement during E3. I looked over all the news that came out during E3 on the Bethblog and they all said “this summer.” I guess Howard just let it slip during a video.

Why not ps3 and pc first this sucks I already bought a playstation network card

The reason why bethesda hasnt released it for the other consoles is because they are cheap as dirt, they sold out to microsoft for x amount of dollars so that they could have it all for themselves for x amount of time so that they think and so does bethesda they both will end up selling more, microsoft (xbox) will sell more because of people being impatient who own a PC version and bethesda (other consoles pc, and ps3) will sell more of the base game and the dlc because the impaitent people will want to play it asap and than get it for the pc for the mods. Just goes to show they are MONEY GRUBBING PIGS :D. (that period ends my sentence but its also the drool coming out of their disgusting mouths when they see cash) Scumartists is what microsoft and bethesda higher ups are.

Well Thinksbethsdaisacheat@slol, you are wrong on a couple of fronts. 1. It’s not the cost factor, even though yes there is some money play involved. 2. Generally speaking the mass public is NOT going to purchase more copies of anything just because something came out 30 days before the other.

Here’s the deal with Microsoft and Bethesda. During the creation process of Skyrim, Microsoft and Sony both propped Bethesda with an exclusive ‘rights-only’ request. However Beth refused stating that both would have equal rights to the game features due to the mass quantity of sales (hence your money remarks).
Here is where it gets tricky. Microsoft, being the ever clever genuis they are gave Beth an exclusive open ended deal with the operating system and operating system costs for all of their computers in exchange for a PRE-rights use of XBox 360 DLC for a period of time. (I’ve heard down the grapevine that it was 30 days, but that remains to be seen).

please come out for ps3 i got a 20$ psn card but im still waiting!!!

anyone know when it will be released on ps3?

  • Kate

Bethesda is the biggest sellout I’ve seen. Their biggest (and original) customers are pc gamers, yet they get the same 30 day (at least) wait that we ps3 owners get? Bethesda is becoming even worse than sony and nintendo. Next generation, A LOT of people are switching to xbox, and A LOT of people are going to stop playing Bethesda games.

I am tired of waiting. Why can’t Bethesda release them all in the same week or so? My waiting will hopefully be worth it.
