But, last month we got news that Robert Rodriguez was focussed on getting this thing done. Now, with a press release from Dimension Films, we have word that it is official. Sin City 2 will be made. Casting is to begin next week, though Rodriguez probably has all of his actors picked out and is just going through the motions. The shoot will take place this summer.

“The first question I am always asked is “When will you make another Sin City?,” Rodriquez in a statement. “I have wanted to re-team with Frank Miller and return to the world he created since the day we wrapped the original, but have felt a duty to the fans to wait until we had something truly exceptional that would meet and exceed what have become epic expectations. ‘A Dame To Kill For’ will certainly be worth the wait.”

Frank Miller had this to say: “The first Sin City knocked out audiences who had never seen anything lke it before. Robert Rodriguez and I are going to shake things up and deliver a ferocious film experience that is going to go even further than the first.”

The official title will leave out the “2”. “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” will be based on Frank Miller’s Sin City Graphic Novels. Frank Miller collaborated with the Academy Award winner of The Departed screenplay, William Monahan on this installment. The film will begin production at Troublemaker Studios in Robert Rodriguez’s home in Austin, Texas.

Rodriguez has already stated that he will be shooting “Machete 2” this spring. So this is either going to be a very busy year for Rodriguez, or he will be postponing Machete. No word on what’s going on with that yet, but he could presumably do both, shooting Machete after casting Sin City, then switching over to Sin City mode this summer. Let’s just hope he doesn’t accidentally splice the two together during editing. On second thought, lets do hope that. That would be awesome.

Many of the original cast are expected to return, although many did die in the original. But with the back and forth story arcs, many characters who died could be back in the sequel, with events taking place before their death. So, really, it is anyone’s guess as to who will be returning.

With the exception of Mickey Rourke’s character, Marv, who is featured in the title story. It would be pretty stupid to name the movie after his story, then not include him.
