Ronda Rousey Nervous About Fight With Gina Carano?

Ronda Rousey probably doesn’t shake in her boots too terribly often, but when she speaks of her next fight, things are a little different. Gina Carano will be her opponent, and according to Rousey, she will be a formidable one.

“Gina is the worst style matchup for me possible,” Rousey said. “She’s the only girl that I feel like has the best feeling and the best sense of distance.”

She continued, “There are very few women that have had one-punch knockout power. There are other girls that they overwhelm the other person. They get TKOs and stuff like that. But Gina has one-punch knockout power, and that’s the kind of person that I have to be the most cautious of. That’s the style that’s the worst for me, and ever since the beginning, I’ve been positive that Gina is the worst style matchup for me.”

Gina Carano is a former Strikeforce women’s featherweight title contender who once served as the face of the female side of MMA. She was quite successful until her devastating loss to Christiane Justino.

Now she has her eyes on The Expenables 3 star.

Does that make Rousey nervous? It kind of seems to…

She said of her future opponent, “The feeling of distance and timing and feeling and all that, that stuff doesn’t go away if you take time off. Those things are always with you. That’s your bicycle.”

She added, “And I’m sure Gina is 100 percent serious about it. She is not going to start training once the fight is announced. She’s already been training for months and months and months. I think she’s already started quite a while ago, and she only has me in mind, and so I expect that she’s going to be extremely prepared and a very dangerous opponent despite what other people would like to speculate.”

I guess we shall see how Ronda Rousey holds up against Gina Carano soon!

I cant stand Ronda Rousey, and the picture of her imitating the great Bruce Lee makes me sick to my stomach. I hope Gina kicks her ass. She need some humbling.

    • Doc

      Pinkerton,
You really need to read about her .She is a pretty humble person
She does a lot of trash talking just to draw a crowd and to try and get more women involved in the sport
She refused to use the nickname Rowdy because she felt t would be disrespectful to a pro wrestler that used the nick name
That speaks highly of her in itself
She is also very careful how she posses so that she shows no disrespect to her parents ,her siblings or what she thinks could be future children
Competitor for the United States Olympic Games
      Bronze 2008 Beijing -70kg
      World Championships
Silver 2007 Rio de Janeiro -70kg
      Pan American Games
Gold 2007 Rio de Janeiro -70kg
      Pan American Judo Championships
      Gold 2004 Isla Margarita 63kg
      Gold 2005 Caguas -63kg
      Silver 2006 Buenos Aires -63kg
      Bronze 2007 Montreal -70kg
Rousey began Judo with her mother at age of 11. At 17, Rousey qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, becoming the youngest judoka in the entire Games. Also in 2004, Rousey won a gold medal at the 2004 World Junior Judo Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

In April 2006, she became the first female U.S. judoka in nearly 10 years to win an A-Level tournament as she went 5-0 to claim gold at the Birmingham World Cup in Great Britain. Later that year, the 19-year-old won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships, becoming the first U.S. athlete ever to win two Junior World medals.

In February 2007, Rousey moved up to 70 kg where she ranked as one of the top three women in the world. She won the silver medal at the 2007 World Judo Championships in the middleweight division and the gold medal at the 2007 Pan American Games.

In August 2008, Rousey competed at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. She lost her quarterfinal to the Dutch ex-world champion Edith Bosch but qualified for a Bronze medal match through the repechage bracket. Rousey defeated Annett Boehm by Yuko to win a bronze medal (note: Judo offers two bronze medals per weight class). With the victory, Rousey became the first American to win an Olympic medal in women’s judo since its inception as an Olympic sport in 1992.

        Doc,
Im not here to dispute her career, for example in the fight with Meisha Tate where Ronda broke her arm. Even though she won, she was a piss poor sport about it, acting like a spoiled little child even refusing to shake her hand. No honor or sportsmanship.

        • Tonio654

Miesha and Ronda have a lot of bad blood, Tate and her boyfriend made insulted and disrespected Rondas teammate Ronda obviously has shown respect to everyone she has fought besides Miesha because shes the only one she truly doesnt like or have respect for. Would you shake someones hand knowing they disrespected someone who is like family to you? Learn more about her before you make assumptions about Ronda.

          • Pinkerton FecalFace

There’s no excuse for acting like that in the ring. And if I had just broken the arm of someone who disrespected me, and they offered their hand, yes I would shake their hand. The point would have been made clear, it would make me the bigger person and its the honorable thing to do. No reason to act like a 16 year old who’s pissed because someone was talking shit about their friend. It all goes back to honor and respect. Her attitude and actions have proven to me she lacks both. If someone acted towards Ronda the way she did to Miesha I would feel the same about that person regardless of their history.

          • savagemaestro

You right, pinkerton has a chubby for Rhonda, let him have his fantasy.

          • Pinkerton FecalFace

What??? The very first thing I said was I cant stand Ronda Rousey……. I think you need to read a bit better.

          • William Isaacs

Just because you are in love with Rousey does not mean you have to disrespect people

          • Tonio654

Ronda didn’t break her arm and shaking someones hand doesnt mean anything when you have no respect for the person. Rondas even said she has respect for Miesha as a fighter but until she apologizes to her coach and TUF teammate she will not shake her hand because she doesnt shake hands with people who dont have respect for her or her UFC family. Its not about teenage bullshit its about respect and loyalty for her friends.

          • savagemaestro

Oh please, that was a TV SHOW and Rhonda acted like a little biotch. This is professional FIGHTING not the “Bad Girls Club”.

        • savagemaestro

Miesha Tate, like most of Rhonda’s opponents was ALWAYS outmatched by RR, despite her great big heart, she never stood a chance. Most of these girls have day jobs, and lack the Olympic level training that Rhonda has constant acces to. The skill disparity in Women’s MMA is atrocious, just like boxing. It’s a;ways true of new combat sports. Remember how lonit took to beat Ken Shamrock and the Gracies? Back then, pretty much everyone but (true) JKD and Kali-Tudo guys were new to BJJ, Pankration and transitioning between styles. BRING ON THE CYBORG!

      • Pinkerton FecalFace

And acting like a asshole disrespecting your opponents is not a good way to generate interest in an ancient sport that is built on respect and honor.

        • Doc

Pinkerton, oh ok see where you are coming from.
I will have to say when I was in a fight and mad enough to hurt someone win or loose I am not shaking hands and patting on the back.
It is a sport but by the time someone gets thru beating on my head I am in no mood to shake hands ,so I guess I never gave that part of it a thought
I always catch my self saying why in the blank are they shaking hands they just beat the devil out of each other

          • Pinkerton FecalFace

I understand what your saying. Check out the fight between Forrest Griffin VS. Stephan Bonner. Its by far the best example of the honor and respect for each other I speak of.

          • Anthony H

I have been reading a lot of your comment, Pinkerton. I think I need to add a little more to help you understand. The whole Rousey/Tate issues goes back to trash talking on Tate’s side with her boyfriend that went too far. And its peek was when Tate’s boyfriend said if he ever saw her all alone, he would kick her ass. And Tate backed up her boyfriend on that. There was no joking to it. And Tate offering her handshake after their match was just to get under Rousey skin. Tate has said for years that she doesn’t respect Rousey at all. So, why should Rousey respect Tate? Any normal person would hold their ground and not be fake. That is what Rousey is doing. You simply just dislike her and that is it. Forget the respect crap, it means nothing in your argument because it is Tate that has been the most disrespectful overall.

    • savagemaestro

That’s an awesome statement, and I totally agree, they’re hyping Carano as though she’s actually dangerous after a four year layoff that has seen Rhonda training and fighting the entire time. Dana White and his goons are nothing more than blood pimps, which is why they lose guys like GSP and Randy Couture. Reminds me of when they matched up a healing Brock Lesner with Allistair Overeem. I would love to see Gina DESTROY Rhonda, but I have a hard time seeing her layoff being helpful. This should be Cyborg, but Dana doesn’t want his pet project broken yet.

      • Pinkerton FecalFace

Im confused. At first your saying “I have a chubby for Ronda” When I am totally against her and her actions, and then you agree with my statement.

        • Jeramie Walton

I totally have a chubby for Rhonda Rousey.BIG TIME ! And even if though you are afraid to say it. I aint.

  • Merica #1

    Gina can’t beat her…
Zingano or Cyborg…will…if they ever get the chance…
Holm has the size and reach to cause her problems…but lacks the grappling needs atleast 2 UFC fights before…
Carano is just a stop-gap, delay tactic till they can find some new younger competition that can match her strength and intensity…

  • Robert Hansen

Don’t try and hype it. Rhonda is going to stomp her

  • UNCLE SI

It really should say she’s scared to death to fight Cyborg. Who’s after Carano, Stephanie McMahon.

  • Testosterone

Isn’t there a rule that says that, if a woman’s hormonal masculinity is beyond a certain point, then she will not be allowed to compete as a female?

This is a serious question. I read it somewhere once, but cannot find it online.

    • Pinkerton FecalFace

As far as I know the only thing being talked about in regards to hormones and MMA is the transgender man who is fighting as a woman in MMA. Names Fallon Fox.

    • ICstupidTOO

If that was the case then it should also apply to LPGA, WNBA, Boxing, women’ soccer, definitely softball (not a sport), and the list goes on when you have those in between gender rosie o’donnell looking clones. Gina Carrano is a hottie and still athletic…why can’t we have female athletes that look as she does physically?

      • Testosterone

Agreed. What about Cyborg? Something tells me her hormonal assay is off-the-charts.

  • Max Steiner

Gina Carano? Cyborg already destroyed her….its on youtube.
Runnin Rhonda’s real fear is losing to Cyborg and losing her UFC checks !

    • Dan

Wrong. Cyroid destroyed her. Cyborg never showed up.

    • ICstupidTOO

yes she did destroy her but check carefully…she resembled a muscular man on steroids cut up and angry. Can’t imagine how she was actually married to a guy but then again trannys are common down in Brazil anyway lol

  • DK

Attempts at hyping this fight are such a joke. Yeah, I’m sure Carano’s “timing and distance” or whatever won’t be affected by her 5 years not fighting, and she’ll show the “one-punch knockout power” she displayed in ONE FIGHT EIGHT YEARS AGO. Of course this all depends on Carano showing proper defense against Ronda’s takedowns and judo throws(she won’t). At least admit you’re doing the fight for the star power because acting like Carano has anything Rousey’s previous opponents didn’t after a five year layoff is embarrassing.

  • BJJ_god

I wish the media would quit trying to push this fight. It’s a stupid fight plain and simple. Trying to say that a girl that hasn’t fought in over 5 years proposes a real threat is just idiotic. This fight will be a no win situation for Ronda career wise. The only thing she will gain is a good payday. Nothing more. There are so many girls out there that could really put a beating to Ronda but the UFC refuses to pursue signing them. Sad really.

  • sweetmama14

LOL This is not only complete fiction, it’s actually ridiculously childish fiction to anyone who knows anything about these two fighters. This is all about hyping a fight between two relatively hot chicks to get a bigger audience, but Carano is not a real challenge for Rousey.

  • Rob

F$@K Ronda haters. The girl is awesome. Limp wrist weaklings hate b/c they can’t roll

  • Charles Davis

Really confused here….when did Gina sign with the UFC? I missed the announcement. Is this going to be like when Dana was going to fight Tito? No really, when did she sign or this an old article? Sure why not have someone who hasn’t fought in 4-5 years come in and immediately be given a shot at the title that will make the division and the champ real valid. Hell for that matter sign me up to fight Jon Jones, I could use the extra money.

  • dinddong

Ronda should stop talking about Gina Carano’s fight, that will never happen too soon.

Gina didn’t enter ring since 2009.

  • John Ritchie

This is UFC hype, and arguably unethical.

With no fights in several years, Carano does not belong in the ring against Ronda Rousey. Rousey has no competition at present (other than Cyborg, whom she will continue to duck as long as possible).. Ronda could easily armbar Carano in under a minute ending the match, but look for her to stand with Carano for AT LEAST a minute to give fans the impression that this is truly competition. The only question in this fight is WHEN the armbar happens.

Cue the postfight interview where Carano will say that she “underestimated” how strong and fast Rousey was, and how she should have had a couple of “tune-up matches” before challenging her.

If you pay money to see this, how stupid are you going to feel afterward? Please join me in sending a message to Dana and his minions by NOT buying this crap PPV.

  • Ol’ Grunt

Here’s hoping that Rousey gets her bitch ass beat down. Talks rap away from the mike, throwing her ass all around Hollywood, and especially with Dana White. She had access to the best training facilities the world, while some of her opponents are lucky if the gym had separate locker rooms.
Who was the genious photographer that decided to take her picture posing in front of a statue of Bruce Lee? That bitch isn’t worthy of washing Bruce’s Gi.

  • geneo

why don’t you face her up. she’d probably kick your ass………. head up Rhonda, you got this.!!!!!!!!

  • Yahni

I can’t see how Rousey can see this fight even being competitive not taking anything from Gina,But she hasn’t fought in YEARS.Its funny how Gina can get a shot, but Dana says Cyborg needs a few fights before she can compete for the title

  • Roid Rogers

what a crock, Rousey is doing all the hype talking Dana tells her to do. Gina could never make 135 and I hope she reads thru this childish hype to see their goal. $$$$$$. She’s too smart, and does not need the cash

  • Hawk Cheney

Ronda has to make this fight sound like it’s actually going to be a challenge to promote the fight. BS It’s ridiculous that this fight is even taking place.

  • Dock Holliday

This is a joke. Ronda’s grappling will dominate Gina every way possible. 1st round armbar. I even think Ronda’s striking would rival Gina’s cos she has been out of the game for so damn long. And thats BS that you don’t lose your ability to judge distance. I know if I haven’t trained for a month my timing is sh*t.
