Ron Artest’s Elbow Brings World Peace To James Harden

Yes, I am aware of Artest’s name change, but after that wild elbow to James Harden’s temple, it’s hard not to be reminded of the person who, in large part, brought “The Malice in the Palace” to the sports world. Artest, AKA, Metta World Peace and his sharp-as-nails elbows, in one fateful swing, ended the goodwill his “new leaf” behavior brought him, even though he was quick to apologize for his actions.

To some, the apologies ring hollow.

In case you missed it, the lead image provides all of the details, but in this day and age, of course there’s video of the incident. Hell, there’s an animated gif, as well. What we have is World Peace elbowing the absolute stuffing out of Harden–so much so, in fact, some follow-up reports indicate a concussion for the Thunder’s excellent sixth man.

The particularly vicious head knock in question:

For his actions, Artest-World Peace was immediately tossed from the game, and he faces a long suspension; but that’s just from the NBA. Once again, World Peace-Artest is being tried by the court of public opinion, and if public sentiment was any indicator, let’s just say Metta-Ron is lucky public opinion won’t be able to mete out any punishments:

Yes, he won the NBA “citizenship award” (WTF IS THAT!?) but there’s no chance Metta World Peace does not someday murder at least one person.(image) 4 hours ago via TweetDeck ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Yep, pretty much that. For what it’s worth, Artest-World Peace did try to apologize for his actions:

I just watched the replay again….. Oooo..
My celebration of the dunk really was too much… Didn’t even see James ….. Omg… Looks bad(image) 12 hours ago via Mobile Web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Hope James Hardin is ok…

Judging by the Twitter reaction, however, it doesn’t look like anyone is taking these apologies to heart, choosing instead to wish the maximum punishment on Artest-World Peace. ESPN naturally got in on the act as well, but even the Worldwide Leader went above and beyond the norm, using a five-man roundtable discussion to react to the vicious elbow. An example of the reaction:

1. What was your gut reaction to the play?

Andrew Kamenetzky, ESPN Los Angeles: Shock — it was a pretty vicious hit, seemingly out of nowhere — and then disappointment, considering how much work Metta has put in rehabilitating his season and image. This incident represents a major step backward.

As we await word from the NBA front office on the upcoming suspension, does anyone want to take bets on how long Artest-World Peace’s lasts? Does he make it back for the playoffs? Let us know what you think.

This guy is disgusting. He should be prosecuted and booted from the NBA for life. There is no room in the game for idiots like this. He would be better off in cage fighting. Hopefully he would get his neck broken!

    • http://yahoo kirkland

well it may of looked and been a very vicious action , appartlly you have have played basketball or any contact sport at a competitive level(like my spelling) that is apart of the game, and especally in basketball the act seen is usally in retalation, but my point is part of being an great atheleten is a aggreesive (killer instinct), i believe sports especally at the professional level is so intense and emotional that things like this happen and part of being suceesfull is keeping your self safe from pain and inflicting it on your opponent , and if you never played basketball

      • Frank

Your an idiot. It has been a long standing rule that you cannot raise your elbows to head height and swing them. You will be charged with a flagrant foul and ejected EVERY TIME. Yes, Basketball is a contact sport, but it’s not MMA.

      • http://Blowsmoke..com Marv

It does not LOOK vicious! It is vicious!
He did it with intent to hurt the guy. It different from accidental!

    • Tony Tamarin

i agree. Everybody is sick of this Ron Artest psycho hurting people. He should be banned from the league for life – NBA needs to send a message. If he wants to be tough guy – there is the ring for that, not the basketball court. Why don’t you show your psycho face in the octagon and get it smashed – let’s see how tough you are then idiot Ron Artest

  • Kevin

It’s a game stupid fire this jerk.

    • http://yahoo kirkland

when its how you make yor living then it falls in the job catagory,,, stuip

  • halaniceguy

Metta World Putz is more like it

  • Matthaios

It was an accident, you guys act like you don’t make fucking mistakes. Suspend all of the black guys in the NBA and every team would suck. I promise you that.

    • http://www.webpronews.com/author/chris-richardson Chris Richardson

Where in the hell did you get “suspend all of the black guys” from?

    • NickLovesManJuice

      You, sir, are retarded.

    • Big Mo

Maybe you should allow him ot give yu a shoot to the head like that and then send your reply.

    • jay

You are a fing idiot. Give me your address and ill come drop an elbow to your head. Lets see if think its no big deal. By the way im 6’4 249 and am amateur cage fighter. Im smaller than attest. So lets se how you like it. Doushbag

    • MettaMurderCharge

Lol I’m black and I don’t even know where that came from. Race has nothing to do with this they both were black. WTF?

    • Frank

It was definitely no accident. He knew what he was doing. It was deliberate and flagrant, in addition to being extremely dangerous. If you couldn’t see that your either blind, stupid, or all of the above.

  • mox

    Yihaaaa! World Peace!

  • wheeler barlow

Anyone remember Rudy Tomjanovich taking a bow to the face!!! This can get out of hand really quickly.

  • Roxy

Bad Sportsmanship at it’s finest!! He should be arrested and charged with assault. That behavior shouldn’t be tolerated and if I was a LA L team-mate, I wouldn’t want that type of image associated with my team!

  • BenMachiavel1

Agree, Ron Artest (Metta World Peace) whatever his name is should be banned for life. Pete Rose is still banned from baseball and this hoodlum is allowed to play in the NBA, he should not even be allowed to atttend a game.

  • world peace

there should be his reality check kick his ass out the league he’s a professional player he posed to be a role model for the kids I know playoff basketball emotions run at the end of the day you should not act like that phone national tv go take up boxing for ufc I think you should be a criminal charges on stuff like what this

    • whinster3

that is one sick player out there…turning a new leaf with the change of name is over rated. nothing’s changed for him. even the apology came with the smirk. he wasn’t serious about it. the nba should impose stricter sanctions on these cases. quite often, good players are the casualties…

  • dapissa

who cares, its a game with a bunch of over paid babies. One gets hit in the head and cries on the floor. I’m sure his paycheck will make everything Okay. Life will go on, they will continue to collect their checks. boo hooo whaaaaaaaaaa :(

  • Andrew b

If you suspend all the black guys who will play basketball ?

    • Don Mega

      Jeremy lin

  • tap

This isn’t hockey, for goodness sake! World Peace has done this stuff before and he has had previous warning to be on notice about his “impulse control” issues. Celebrating a dunk? Maybe with the right fist chest thump, but the left arm wasn’t even in motion to mirror his right. He was very aware that a player was in his space because body contact was made, therefore, it seems pretty obvious the elbow was purposeful and intentional. Just poor impulse control. Was he considering the fallout of his actions? Obviously not, I’m pretty sure he wasn’t hoping to get ejected from the game.

Just suspend for the first round and be done with it.

  • Dale Seabrook

In hockey, you don’t even give flying elbows to unsuspecting opponents. Yes, you fight with your fists, but only if both parties are willing to.

James Harden had no idea that a flying elbow was coming his way – only Ron Artest, aka, Metta World Punk did.

  • Eliyahuk

I’ve been watchin NBA for almost 50 years. As a lifelong basketball fan, early on I spotted Artest’s skill and tenacity. I love to note and pick a defensive player of the year each year I watch. That said, there is no room for the vicious brutality Ron brings to the game. His physical assault’s against strategic players have proven to be both criminal could be prosecuted as felonious. He gives new definition to the term ‘basketbrawl’ and it is my opinion he should be banned for life, restricted from Hall of Fame consideration, and used as an example for all others who think the sport is about maiming critical players on opposing teams. Let’s see if the league has the cahones to do what is right in this matter.

    • http://www.realnews.com chris

Sounds like a real steep punishment.Strategic targeting of key opponents has always been a part of basketball (see Bill Laimbeer’s career). Trying to single out Artest is really a cop out. Was it a dispicable act? yes. Should he punished absolutely! but banned for life? or removed from hall of fameconsideration (not that he has a chance in hell) is over the top. 10 game ban 100k fine and a 2 year probabtion where if he repeats such an action a season ban or more serious action is probably a better message to send. Clean up the sport, don’t just target one player is my philosophy,

  • http://google Grammy

Ron Artest should be banned from basketball; and how in the world did that idiot come up with getting rid of all black players; soooo sick of some always crying the race card. There are many, many fine black athletes and coaches that are respected and held in high esteem. Ron Artest has real problems; not because he is black; because, well, HE HAS REAL ANGER PROBLEMS and does not belong in ANY competitive atmosphere.

  • MindPollution

Is it just me or was he mouthing the words “This is Sparta!” as his elbow made contact?

  • Frank

MWP needs to be banned from the NBA for life!! He is a danger to every player in the league if he can’t control his temper and his actions. He could have hurt James Harden much worse than he did. What will they let him do next? Bring down an elbow as he’s coming down from the rim and paralyze someone? The NBA does not need players like Ron Artest, aka Metta World Peace, ruining the game and the Lakers should feel the same way! he should be fined, banned from the game and charged with aggravated assault.

  • http://webpronews.com Tyrone Rico

Ron Artest is crazy. This is why Ibaka backed away from him in this incident. Clearly a danger to anyone in his path. Got a wife?! No s@#t? She is next on his elbow list no doubt. There is nothing excusing this mad man’s action. “Metta World Peace” was just a wack promotion for his wack musical career. If he can avoid criminal charges.

  • Woody

I think the basket pump him up so high he had no idea who was around him I don’t think it was on purpous

  • http://www.basketballnet.net Aaron

7 game suspension for Ronny, I mean Metta. Will be interesting to see if the Lakers can continue to beat up on the Nuggets in the playoffs without him…..they looked good in game 1.
