Natura Pet Products today recalled six different brands of dog and cat food over potential Salmonella contamination.

The recall was made after a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) test returned positive for Salmonella on a single sample. The products being were all packaged in the same production facility as the positive sample.

Natura Pet Products manufactures pet food and treats markeded as “natural” and “holistic.” The recall includes dry dog food, dry cat food, and pet biscuits/bars/treats branded Innova, EVO, California Natural, Healthwise, Karma, and Mother Nature with expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014.

The company has released a statement through its website apologizing and stating that additional testing procedures have been implemented for its products. The statement, in full:

Dear Natura Family,

We have some sad news to share. We are announcing today a voluntary recall of all Innova, California Natural, EVO, Healthwise, Mother Nature and Karma branded dry pet food and biscuit/bar/treat products with expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014.

We made this decision in part due to a single positive Salmonella test by the FDA on product manufactured April 3. Normally, this would have resulted in retrieval of product manufactured over just a few days. However, we are taking the additional precautionary measure to recall all products in the marketplace. Our first priority is the wellbeing of the pets we serve.

Our decision allows us to ensure that all products available in the marketplace were produced after June 10, the date when we implemented additional finished product testing procedures with the guidance of industry experts.

Below this message you will find instructions on how to request a replacement voucher or refund. If you have any further questions, please contact us at http://www.naturapet.com/about/contact-us or (800) 224-6123.

We are truly sorry. We know this news disappoints you; we are disappointed too. Natura will always focus on high-quality ingredients, product safety and innovation in pet nutrition. We remain committed to making products you can trust.

made in china. end of story.

Actually, it is a domestic manufacturer that hires illegals to perform clean up, and of course, “mi no trebaho” (guessing the spanish spelling) is the typical reply to “why didn’t you clean that part?”

Actually, they did get bought out and are farming out the production to China. This recall has been going on for _months_ on an industry level, and has expanded several times. Its sad, really, as Innova used to be one of the better brands.

I hope the bag says its from China so I know not to buy it.

do not buy anything that can be eaten from china . they have parasites never seen in this country, until now. ascaris lumbricoides-an intestinal roundworm-is a rarity in the us.china has millions with this worm . one ascaris can lay 200,000 eggs a day. how many can be found in one bowel movement? contaminate one stream or river and our groundwater can go to hell.if you don’t believe me,call cdc.

i agree with you. i signed a petition about how a chinese dog food product killed someones dog and have sicken other dogs.

I 100% agree with you! We buy NO dog food or dog snacks from China. A long time ago we bought rawhide snacks from China and they turned out to have a poison chemical in them. My husband & I rarely buy anything from China period. They have had poison dry wall, poison toothpaste, poison pet food, lead paint in children’s toys etc. We will go without first or make it ourselves if we can. We actually cook for our 4 dogs around 4-5 days a week. We cook them beef liver, chicken liver, chicken gizzards, whole roasted chicken etc. They are very healthy and our 12 year old acts live a 4-5 year old, and they are worth being treated well. The only one in the world who will love you more than themselves is a DOG.

There some confusion on the food. China did not contaminate the one huge batch that killed lts of animals a few years ago. IT was the US buyers of products for the pet food company. They bought grain from China that was intended for industrial use as it had chemicals in it—they knew this when they bought it. A few dead aimals versus millions in profit? This was proven to be true. The only pet food company I know of that actually knows where their grains and meats come from-USDA farmers (except for venison and lamb contracts with New Zealand)is NUTRO. Their 2 companies conduct over 600 safety checks per day-per company—
I know this to be true as I worked as a pet nutrition specialist for 15 years–until they did cutbacks and I got fired. Good food-but stupid,,,greeeeedy bosses who now run the company.
I still feed my cats Nutro–have a 19 and 18 yr old cats that are still going strong and active as kittens.

If you start reading your packages you will find that the US makes treats and food for your pet that is worse than what comes out of CHina.

I fed my loving Golden Retriever “California Natural” his whole life!! The sad sad sad part is that I lost him this past November due to his whole system shutting down! Literally, his intestines, lungs, all of it! I still do not have answers as to why this happened!! And even more sad is that he was just shy of his 6th birthday!! I’m still grieving over this! Now I have many more questions!! :((((

My Black lab always gets fed Innova and IAMS He loves It. It’s unfortunate because we now have to closely watch his health from now just to make sure he hasn’t been infected.
